A Model that Works
Precarn's strength is collaborative research and development in a networked environment. The model sets up the conditions for successful commercialization. Including an end user - often the first customer - in every project sets up the initial commercialization path. Each Precarn project also includes a university as an active participant, and in many cases includes a government laboratory. The commercial opportunity must be described at the proposal stage. Final deliverables include a business case document that lays out key steps in the commercialization plan, and a workshop to which customers may be invited. The project team owns the foreground intellectual property, and is required to share information with other members of the network. Staff monitor project outcomes for 3-5 years beyond completion.
